What they do better
Their exports carry no watermark and cost nothing, at up to 1080p. Ours are free and unlimited at 480p and carry a small mark in the corner; removing it is a one-off payment for that video. If all you need is a captioned MP4 at HD with no mark on it and you do not mind ads on the page, they give you that for free and we do not.
That is the whole of their advantage, and it is a real one. It is worth saying plainly rather than burying it, because you will find it in about thirty seconds anyway.
What you get here instead
Sixty-two caption styles against five, and twenty-two animations that combine with word-by-word karaoke highlighting, so the captions can look like the ones you are copying rather than approximately like them. Six of the styles are set in Devanagari, which matters if you caption in Hindi — Latin-only fonts render Hindi as empty boxes.
And an editor rather than a caption generator. Trim and split on a timeline, crop to 9:16 for Reels, grade the colour, drop text over the video, find the good clips inside a long recording, and reframe them automatically around whoever is speaking. VideoToCaptions captions a video you have already cut; this cuts it as well.
There are no ads. Their tool is paid for by advertising on the page; this one is paid for by the people who choose to remove a watermark, which is the same trade made a different way.
Hinglish is the real difference
Both tools run Whisper, and Whisper writes Hindi speech in Devanagari. Creators captioning reels in Hindi almost never want Devanagari — they want Roman Hindi, the way people actually type: "kya scene hai", not "क्या सीन है".
AI Caption Cut romanises on your device, with schwa deletion and a lexicon of the words that come out wrong under a naive transliteration. It is the one part of this comparison a competitor cannot match by changing a setting.
How to choose
Want a free captioned MP4 at 1080p, nothing else, and ads are fine? Use theirs. It is a good tool and it does that job.
Captioning in Hindi or Hinglish, want the caption to look like a specific style you have seen, or need to cut a long recording into shorts and crop them vertical? That is this tool, and the 480p export is free and unlimited while you decide whether it is worth paying to drop the watermark.

Yes. Both use OpenAI Whisper compiled to run in the browser and WebCodecs to render the video, so neither uploads your footage. You can verify either one the same way: open the network tab while captions generate, or disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.
Why does AI Caption Cut watermark free exports when VideoToCaptions does not?
They run ads on the page; this site does not. Both cost something to build and keep working — the difference is whether an advertiser or a customer pays for it. Free exports here are unlimited at 480p, and removing the watermark is a one-off payment for that video, never a subscription.
Which one is more accurate?
On clean English audio, very close — the same model does the work. On Hindi and Hinglish, AI Caption Cut romanises the output on-device, which VideoToCaptions does not offer at all, so the captions come out the way Indian creators actually write.
Can I use both?
